Tom Boardman
Tom Boardman has over 35 years experience of working in the financial services industry. He spent his early career with Prudential plc in a variety of actuarial and general management roles. He worked for Nationwide Building Society in the UK establishing their bancassurance operation in the 1990's before returning to Prudential in 2001 as Managing Director of their Annuity businesses. Tom was appointed to his current role as Director of Retirement Strategy and Innovation for Prudential UK in 2008. In this role Tom is responsible for shaping the Prudential’s future strategic vision in the savings, pension and retirement income markets in the UK. Tom is a Director of Prudential Annuities Ltd. and Prudential Retirement Income Ltd.. Prudential are market leaders in the UK with annuity liabilities at the end of 2008 in excess of £32,5bn.
He is the co-author of the prize winning "Reinventing Annuities" paper presented to the Staple Inn Actuarial Society in January 2001. In addition the Journal of Risk and Insurance published a speech he made in Chicago in 2006 at the Longevity Three Conference entitled “Annuitization lessons from the UK – Money-back annuities and other developments”.
Tom is Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. He is a Governor of the Pensions Policy Institute. He has recently been elected an Honorary Visiting Professor at the Pensions Institute at Cass Business School. He is a member of the Life Insurance Council of the Association of British Insurers. He is a member of the Investment Governance Group set up by the Treasury and DWP in October 2008 to promote best practice in investment – related by occupational pension schemes. He is also a member of the World Economic Forum’s Expert Group supporting the Financing Demographics Shifts project.
Tom has an MA in Economics from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University and has a keen interest in behavioural economics.
